The Happiness Project – Day 3

Entry for Day 3 of The Happiness Project

3 things I’m grateful for:

  1. I am in a position where I can afford to treat myself to fun things like going to a Cowboys game (with awesome seats!).
  2. I have a reliable car that gets me from point A to point B safely.
  3. My dog got over his separation anxiety and stopped barking like a maniac when I leave the house.

The Happiness Project – Day 2

Entry for Day 2 of The Happiness Project

3 things I’m grateful for:

  1. I’m in a financial position where I can afford to buy a dozen baked goods and make someone’s day (see below). Also, I thought to myself again today – I’ll never be rich. Regardless of how much money I make, I will always remember that there are other people who need it more than I do.
  2. I’m still appreciated and valued at work…even though I’ve been slacking lately. This is huge. I started slacking at every other job because I didn’t feel appreciated or valued. I should really appreciate it back and get my act together.
  3. I live in a safe neighborhood that doesn’t make me think twice about taking my garbage out at 1:30 AM.

The Happiness Project – Day 1

Well. Today was very insightful.

It’s funny how, unless you’re prompted to do something or challenge your way of thinking, you can very easily narrow your view of the world. Maybe this is why it’s so important to constantly challenge ourselves to step outside of our comfort zones. So that we can expand our field of vision, bump into other people along the way, and make connections we wouldn’t normally have made.

In starting this project, I was prompted to think about my current level of overall happiness. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the happiest, my current level of happiness with my life is a 7. A 7. I’m probably happier now than I have been in years. But still, I know it could be a 10. 2014-08-23 03.23.09

Then, I was prompted to break my life down into distinct areas and assess my level of happiness with my life in each of those areas. Here’s how my chart turned out. I could use a bit more balance.

Side note: This whole project reminds me of The Magic. The entire book is centered around the idea that the more grateful you are for what you have, the more you’ll have in life to be grateful for.

100 New Experiences – #68 Buy A New Car

For years, I’ve been struggling with bad credit and bad luck with cars. A repo, a couple beaters, an old convertible that rained inside when it rained outside…I’ve had a string of crappy cars.

Now, let me just say…when I made this list, I was in NO position to buy a new car…let alone a nice one. That didn’t stop a girl from dreaming though.

What Are You Left With When You Strip Everything Else Away?

Oriah Mountain Dreamer beautifully summed up the life of a single person searching for something real. Her poem, The Invitation, is life-changing. You’re welcome. 🙂

The Invitation
Oriah Mountain Dreamer

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living
I want to know what you ache for
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me how old you are
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love
for your dreams
for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon…
I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow
if you have been opened by life’s betrayals
or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your
fingers and toes
without cautioning us to
be careful
be realistic
to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me
is true.
I want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself.

If you can bear the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see Beauty
even when it is not pretty
every day.
And if you can source your own life
from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure
yours and mine
and still stand on the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
“Yes.”

It doesn’t interest me
to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up
after a night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children.

It doesn’t interest me who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the center of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.

It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom
you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like the company you keep
in the empty moments.

A Love Letter to Lift Your Spirits

If you haven’t yet read The Soulmate Secret by Arielle Ford, you should carve out a weekend for some serious personal growth. In the meantime, the letter below is one of the most powerful things I’ve read and is too good not to share. Read the original post here.

Dear One,
Everyone longs to give themselves completely to someone, to have a deep soul relationship with another, to be loved thoroughly and exclusively, but I say “No.” Not until you are satisfied, fulfilled and content with being alone, with giving yourself totally and unreservedly to Me, will you be ready to have the intensely personal and unique relationship that I have planned for you. You will never be united with anyone or anything else until you are united with Me. I want you to stop planning, stop wishing, and start allowing Me to give you the most thrilling plan in existence – one that you cannot even imagine. I want you to have the best. Please, allow Me to bring it to you.

You must keep watching Me expecting the greatest of things. Keep experiencing the satisfaction that I AM. Keep listening and learning the things that I will tell you. Just wait. That’s all. Don’t be anxious. Don’t worry. Don’t look around at the things others have or that I have given them. Don’t look at the things you think you want. Just keep looking up to Me or you will miss what I want to show you. And then, when you are ready, I will surprise you with a love far more wonderful than any you have dreamed of.

You see, until you are ready and until the one I have for you is ready (I am working even at this moment to have you both ready at the same time), until you are both satisfied exclusively with Me and the life I have prepared for you, you won’t be able to experience the love that exemplifies your relationship with Me. This is Perfect Love.

And Dear One, I want you to have this most wonderful love. I want to see in the flesh a picture of your relationship with Me, and to enjoy materially and concretely the everlasting union of beauty, perfection, and love that I offer. Know that I love you utterly. Believe it and be satisfied.

Love,
God
